As a member of Calcine Retrieval Project, the candidate will join the team in developing and testing new technologies for retrieving radioactive waste.  This role will be focused on supporting the development of existing mockups and prototypes as well as updating and modifying existing electrical power systems.  Candidates should be comfortable working independently with minimal guidance, but must also be able to work closely with other team members.  They should enjoy finding creative solutions to difficult problems and have the initiative to identify and resolve design deficiencies.  Most importantly, they should take pride in their work while remaining open to feedback and suggestions from others.  Proficiency with some or all of the following is preferred:

  • Design of low and medium-voltage power distribution systems
  • PLC-based control solutions
  • Dissipation of static charge in solids-conveying pneumatic systems
  • Proficiency with SKM Power Tools
  • Lighting layout and design
  • Lightning protection design
  • Cathodic protection design
  • Programming and electronics
  • Design for hazardous environments, especially radiation hazards


  • Bachelor of Science or Masters (preferred) degree in associated engineering field
  • US citizen and able to work in Idaho
  • Work a 4X10 schedule based out of the Sawtelle Street Facility (SSF) and/or Site
