Waste Management Specialist

Job Title: Waste Management Specialist

Duration: Date of Award – 9/30/2021 with one option year

Location: Hanford Site

Closing Date: 6/24/2020       



  • Interface (as needed) with Radiological Control; Environmental, Traffic, and MSA waste generating line organizations to provide support for waste activities
  • Designate and/or characterize waste. Includes, but is not limited to:
  • Interpretation of laboratory analysis
  • Performing chemical designations and radioactive waste determinations
  • Documenting and tracking waste designations in the Solid Waste Information Tracking System (SWITS)
  • Performing calculations
  • Providing support for proper waste generation, segregation, and packaging
  • Performing waste compatibility reviews
  • Prepare waste profiles
  • Assist in the creation of Waste Management procedures to include, but not limited to:
  • Waste characterization
  • Waste tracking
  • Compatibility reviews
  • Pin file management


  • Personnel shall have a Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in a related field and minimum 8 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Personnel shall be proficient the implementation and interpretation of:
  • WAC 173-303
  • 40 CFR 268
  • 40 CFR Parts 750 and 761

Personnel must be current with the following training requirements (training with dates required):

  • RadWorker II Training
  • WA State Waste Designation Training
  • RCRA Container Waste Management Training
  • RCRA Hazardous Waste Identification Training
  • RCRA Requirements for Satellite Accumulation Training
  • Hazardous Materials General Awareness Training
  • 24-Hour Hazardous Waste Site Worker (HAZWOPER)


  • Advanced Shipper Training
  • General Packaging Requirements for the Transportation of HAZMAT
  • ERDF profile and waste acceptance experience
  • Chemical compatibility reviews
  • McCoy RCRA Training
  • Management and/or leadership experience
  • Solid Waste Information and Tracking System (SWITS)
  • 24-Hour Hazardous Waste Site Worker and documented 1-day supervised field experience
